Quality
time is baby massage time and a wonderful way to enhance
the love affair between you and your baby. Touch is as important
to a baby’s overall development as food. The therapeutic
benefits of massage on adults is now well recognised in the
west, but it is only within the last few decades that the
rewards of massaging our babies have been highlighted.
Heart2Heart baby Massage was set up two years ago by Celine
Samson, a certified infant massage instructor in Henley. The
short course promotes this loving art and aims to share the
many benefits it can bring for baby and their parents.
According to new research by a team at the University of Warwick,
massage may help infants aged under six months sleep better,
cry less and be less stressed.
“
Given the apparent effect of infant massage on stress hormones,
it is not surprising to find some evidence of an effect on
sleep and crying,” said Angela Underdown of the University
of Warwick.
The course is held over four sessions, each lasting approximately
one hour. Parents will learn the full massage sequence and
the gentle stretches recommended by the International Association
of Infant Massage. They will also learn essential facts on
baby’s behavioural states, crying and touch relaxation.
Classes are kept small and its also a great way to meet other
parents. Baby ages range from four weeks to five months.

Private
tuition is a popular option now for working couples who
prefer to learn the massage routine in their home at
a convenient time for both parents.
