The home in Love Lane that is perfect for one married couple

WHERE better to live in Valentine’s Day week than Love Lane? That’s exactly where Robert and Shirley Brown live.

The couple have lived in their bungalow for 42 years, moving in on the most romantic day of any couple’s lives — their wedding day.

Robert said: “We just loved the name of the road and we have been very happy here for 42 years.

“Love really blossomed, but it is a bit big for us now the children have grown up so we are looking to downsize.”

And he added: “Every time you give someone your address it makes them smile and many people have said what a lovely place to live.”


Robert and Shirley raised Nicola and Mark at their home and now have four grandchildren.

They have done a lot to the property — thought to have been built in 1960 — including building a sizeable extension.

The bungalow is quite deceiving, providing plenty of space. Robert said: “It is very long — it just seems to go on forever.”

Situated in the charming market town of Watlington, the detached bungalow offers well-presented and spacious accommodation, well suited to families and downsizers alike.

The entrance hall has a double-glazed porch to the front, and a useful storage cupboard at the rear. The living room is a good size with patio doors leading to the garden, along with a bay window to the front ensuring the property gets plenty of natural light.

There is an attractive open fireplace with feature surround which, along with hard wood parquet flooring, adds to the character of the room.

Double doors lead to the kitchen/diner which is an excellent entertaining area, with ample room for the range-style cooker, a breakfast bar and dining table.

The couple, who ran a care company, are now ready for a change although they are hoping to stay local. Robert added: “It is a nice village and we have nice neighbours — there is a feeling of real community. It will be hard to leave after 42 years as we have lots of friends and lots of memories, but we will take both with us.”
