DEMAND for good quality, well-managed rented homes is outstripping supply in and around Henley, according to agents at Savills in the town.

Properties — especially those with rents from £1,500 to £3,000 per calendar month — are being snapped up by families in search of attractive, affordable houses in the area, says Ali Bird of Savills Henley lettings.

“We take on a range of properties and have an excellent stream of good applicants keen to rent,” she said. “This price bracket is proving to be particularly sought after and we are always looking for new stock to meet this need.”

The scale of the lettings sector has grown nationally in recent years and its significance has been further underlined recently by analysis from Savills Research. Using Census data, it showed that the number of South Oxfordshire households in the private rented sector had risen from 6,273 in 2001 to 8,021 in 2011 — an increase of 28 per cent.

Ali Bird continued: “The motivation for renting locally varies. For example we have seen relocation from both London and from abroad. The ability to enjoy a more relaxed, rural lifestyle whilst still being able to commute to the capital is often a key driver. But whatever the reason for renting, today’s tenants require high standards of accommodation.


“The growing demand for such properties presents real opportunities for potential landlords to come forward. Experience and in-depth knowledge of the local market allows for precise pricing which can attract tenants quickly, and so avoid the loss of funds during void periods.”

l33 Ancastle Green — within walking distance of Henley town centre, a well-refurbished four-bedroom detached house with single garage and small manageable garden plus driveway parking. Marketed at £1,895pcm.

l10 Leicester Close — a large three-bedroom detached family home with a larger garden, garage and good living space, again within walking distance of Henley town centre. Marketed at £2,500pcm.

lHighwood House, set in a more rural location. Four bedrooms, one bathroom in the village of Peppard Common, approximately five miles from Henley, and close to good shops and services. This property was marketed at £2,400pcm.
