A cottage is for life, not just for Christmas time
Published 06/01/14

WITH memories of the festive season fading fast, January can seem a little flat and dull — but a house is coming on to the market this month which will help prolong the feeling of Christmas all year long.

Christmas Cottage occupies a wonderful location in the heart of Skirmett, one of the best villages in the Hambleden valley with a rural outlook over the hills and fields beyond.

This family home has been extended and refurbished by the current owners to provide light and spacious accommodation. The sitting room has a tiled floor and a fireplace with stone surround and wood-burning stove. It opens on to a dining area and conservatory/family room which enjoys bi-fold doors opening on to the garden and is also open to the kitchen/breakfast room. The kitchen is fitted with a range of floor- and wall-mounted units with granite work surfaces and an Aga. There is also a study, utility room and cloakroom.

On the first floor the master bedroom has a dressing area and an ensuite shower room. There are three further bedrooms and a family bathroom.

At the front of the property there is parking for four vehicles and a garden laid to lawn with well-stocked flower borders. To the rear the garden is laid to lawn with an ornate pond and flower beds stocked with a variety of seasonal planting. A side gravel path with pergola leads to the garage. The detached garage with remote roller door, power and light is to the rear of the house, accessed from a separate track.

Skirmett has a village pub, the Frog, which has been family-run for more than 15 years and is renowned for its cuisine. The village hall runs local events and exercise classes throughout the year.

Hambleden village, just two miles away, has a village shop and post office together with a village hall, church and the Stag and Huntsman public house and restaurant. It has been used as the film location for well known films such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and, more recently, Nanny McPhee. More extensive shopping and recreation facilities are available in nearby Henley.

The property is due to be launched to the market this week through Savills. For more details, call (01491) 843000.
