Shoppers show romantic side
Published 14/02/13

UNUSUAL nicknames, anecdotes and emotional outpourings were scrawled on heart-shaped pieces of paper as people sought the crown of Henley’s most romantic person this week.

The Precious Love jewellery shop in Duke Street offered a £100 gift voucher to the person who wrote the most romantic message in the run-up to Valentine’s Day. The entries were posted on the shop door.

One message read: “To my sweetheart, you are my everything, my love you have forever. All my love, always your Beaker xxx.”

Another said: “To my castle in the clouds, with love, your earworm.”

Grace Rose told her grandmother: “You have brought such joy into my life.”

Another message read: “To myself, Happy Valentine’s Day, Zeynep. If you don’t love yourself, no one else will.”

Mr J wrote: “I am yearning for your love and to welcome you into my life — call me.”

A message addressed to Edel read: “When we are together my life is complete, Molly.”

A wife wrote: “To my husband. From the moment I met you my world turned from black and white to beautiful technicolour. Thank you.”

Clare told Andrew: “After 30 years you are still my ‘one true Valentine’.”

One message read: “You & me = us” and another read: “HOT 4 THEE”.

Shop owner Tom Bulgarelli said he came up with the idea after watching the film Letters To Juliet and said it had been well-received.

“We also thought it would be nice for people to have something to look at when walking by,” he said.

“It has created a bit of interest even for people who have not been in the shop but have stopped and taken photographs.”

There were more than 30 messages stuck up and the winner was to be decided by Mayor Elizabeth Hodgkin yesterday.

Gorvett & Stone donated boxes of chocolates for the second and third prizes.
