Henley: the “best town in the world” (by 2030)
Published 26/06/14

AMBITIOUS plans have been drawn up to make Henley the “best town in the world” to live, work and visit by 2030.

The Henley Business Plan is designed to encourage investment in the town and attract more visitors. It will attempt to tackle parking and transport issues, strengthen links between employers and skills providers such as The Henley College and improve the relationships between retailers and businesses in the tourist sector. The five-year plan has been drawn up by a new “town team” made up of representatives of the Henley Business Partnership, businesses and Oxfordshire county, South Oxfordshire district and Henley town councils.

A number of projects will be launched under these themes, including developing a marketing strategy to promote Henley as a worldwide brand and encouraging investment in Market Place Mews and in the employment sites identified in the joint Henley and Harpsden neighbourhood plan.

A free town centre WiFi service will be launched and the artisan markets will be improved.

The business plan can be viewed at http://www.southoxbiz.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Henley-business-plan1.pdf Comments can be made by emailing the district council’s economic development team at economic.development@southandvale.co.uk

Henley Town Council has budgeted £10,000 for projects designed to increase the number of visitors and £10,000 has also been set aside by the town and district councils for the re-launch of the shopfront improvement scheme.
