'Mad
Lizzie' puts pupils through their paces
Bishopswood
School in Sonning Common held its inaugural exercise week
with former GMTV fitness coach ‘Mad
Lizzy’ Webb.
Pupils and their teachers were treated to a dance workout
last Thursday (May 9th) to the hit single, Mercy by Duffy.
Lizzy, who spent ten years with a breakfast-time show, said: “I
am a qualified teacher and I teach a number of classes within
the area. I teach in prisons, schools and colleges. It’s
an absolute pleasure to play such an active role within the
community.
“
I came here two years ago with my partner in crime ‘Joggy
Bear’, which was a series on Channel 4. It went down
so well that the parents have asked me back.
“
This is the first time I have ever choreographed something
like this. The routine has a lots of exercises but all can
be done either standing up or sitting down — as some
of the children are in wheelchairs.”
Parent, Susan Fotherby, who has a 13-year-old daughter at
the school, was delighted with the event. “I think
it’s very important. Children like these can’t
go to the parks or even kick a football around without being
supervised. So organising something like this is absolutely
fantastic.”

Pupils
at the school paid tribute in the form of various musical
renditions and readings. In honour of Valerie’s love
for both Latin and Mozart, they sang Ave Verum Corpus, along
with the more traditional Happy Birthday.
“
Valerie Phelps is very much part of Peppard Primary School,” said
governor Rosie
Clinkard. “There is not a single child
in the school who doesn’t know her and likewise Valerie
knows every child by name. She attends all our school events
with her ever-present smile and accompanies us on numerous
school outings. We all wanted to show our appreciation for
the sterling work that she does,” she added.
