An unconventional folk band
Published 13/05/13

FOLKROCK pioneers Fairport Convention will play a concert in Nettlebed as part of their current UK tour.

The band will present a mix of brand new songs and reworkings of their classic repertoire at the Village Club on Monday, May 13.

Formed in 1967’s “Summer of Love” and hailed as the originators of British folkrock music, Oxfordshire-based Fairport has been playing now for 46 years — and they are still writing new music.

They have released numerous albums and been through numerous line-up changes, but are still going strong.

This tour will feature material from the recent critically-acclaimed album Festival Bell as well as a selection of favourite songs and tunes specially chosen in a poll of the band’s fans.

The semi-acoustic show at the Village Club will have a lighter and more intimate feel than the muscular folkrock style usually associated with Fairport.

The line-up will feature Simon Nicol on vocals and guitar, Dave Pegg on bass guitar, Ric Sanders on violin, Chris Leslie on mandolin, fiddle and vocals and Gerry Conway on percussion.

“We are regular visitors to Nettlebed and we always enjoy coming back here,” says founder member Simon Nicol.

“In fact, the Village Club is one of our favourite venues and we particularly look forward to playing there again on Monday evening.”

lFairport Convention’s concert at the Village Club in Nettlebed starts at 8pm. For tickets and booking information call 01628 636620 or visit the club’s website at www.nettlebedfolkclub.co.uk
