Night of pure Sixties magic

ALAN MOSCA from Freddie and the Dreamers is hosting a night of pure swinging Sixties nostalgia at the Hexagon in February.

The veteran muso will be introducing the latest touring production of The Sensational Sixties Experience at the Reading venue on Friday, February 21.

The line-up features four original Sixties acts singing recognisable hits from the era. Topping the bill is the Marmalade, described as one of the most unashamedly commercial bands of the decade.

Their number one hit, Ob La Di Ob La Da will feature high on the list of their evening repertoire, followed by hits such as Cousin Norman, Back On The Road and Falling Apart At The Seams.

The band is joined in the evening’s entertainment by the Swinging Blue Jeans, who will be singing their hit Hippy Hippy Shake as well as Good Golly Miss Molly and Don’t Make Me Over.


Also on the bill are Steve Ellis’ Love Affair, who stormed the charts in 1967 with Everlasting Love, and Chris Farlowe, who started out as lead singer with the Thunderbirds in the late Fifites and went on to perform solo throughout Europe.

His most famous numbers include Let The Heartaches Begin and Reach Out I’ll Be There.

The Marmalade

Described as being unpretentious and irresistibly commercial the group scored in the UK charts in May 1968 with Lovin’ Things and later, number one with the Marmalade anthem Ob La Di Ob La Da, another classic Reflections Of My Life. Then followed in quick succession, Cousin Norman, Back On The Road, Radancer and Falling apart At The Seams



The Swinging Blue Jeans

The Swinging Blue Jeans have a history that spans back to the 1960’s. Over the years their hit singles ‘Hippy Hippy Shake’, ‘You’re No Good, ‘Good Golly Miss Molly and ‘Don’t Make Me Over’ have been the bedrock of the bands memorable live performances. The Swinging Blue Jeans has been led by Alan Lovell, faithfully carrying on the long tradition of the band. Peter Oakman continues with the band to this day along with Jeff Bannister and Graham Hollingworth who complete the line up.



Chris Farlowe

Originally Chris Farlowe and The Thunderbirds started out in the late fifties. Chris later moved on to perform all over Europe & still does to this day. His hits include classics like Out Of Time, Handbags and Glad Rags (which was also released by Rod Stewart as a single ) Let The Heartaches Begin, Reach Out I’ll Be There.



Steve Ellis’ Love Affair

Formed in 1967 Steve Ellis’ Love Affair stormed into the charts with Everlasting Love. At the time Steve was only 17 years of age but with his distinctive powerful voice he and the band notched up further hits, Rainbow Valley, Bringing On Back The Good Times & A Day Without Love.
