CLASSICAL music lovers may dream of visiting Vienna in festival time, but a new festival brings Schubert’s complete portfolio of songs to Oxford for the first time this autumn.
The Schubert Project, featuring every one of the maestro’s 650 Lieder, will play at a variety of venues around the city from October 10 until November 1.
Singers will include Sir Thomas Allen, James Gilchrist and Sophie Karthäuser among others, and they will be joined by some of the world’s leading pianists, including Imogen Cooper and Roger Vignoles. Chamber music will be provided by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Doric String Quartet and the Schubert Ensemble.
Other Schubert events at the festival include original manuscripts on show at the Bodleian Library and Viennese food at local restaurants. Visit www.oxford lieder.co.uk for more details.
