PUT aside any preconceived ideas you may have about clowns, because Le Navet Bete have reinvented the clown for the 21st century, writes Lesley Potter.

The company is bringing its unique cowboy comedy Once Upon A Time In A Western to the Kenton Theatre on March 1 at 8pm.

Le Navet Bete’s cast of four have developed a reputation for delivering funny, high-energy shows. Performances incorporate clowning, acrobatics, mime, music, a little audience participation and good old-fashioned slapstick silliness. Based in Devon, Le Navet Bete have been performing this show in theatres and at festivals throughout the west of England since September 2013, and their visit to Henley comes at the start of a new Spring 2014 tour.

The audience is taken on a fast-paced, interactive adventure in the Wild West town of Kidneystone. Villain Loco Pedro and the Mayor are secretly plotting to rob the town’s train of its gold and, after the death of Sheriff Ned, the town needs a new lawman. Rudi, the saloon’s piano player, isn’t up to the job but will they find a new hero to bring justice to the town? The company has been entertaining audiences in theatres and festivals since 2006. Previous touring shows include Napoleon A Defence, Extravaganza, The Greatest Story Never Told, SerendipityAnd Zemblanity, and A Christmas Carol.

Once Upon A Time In A Western is designed will appeal to theatre-lovers of all ages.
