Bridget Jones meets grumpy old women

JOURNALIST, agony aunt and author Virginia Ironside will be at the Watermill’s book club next Monday to talk about the second instalment in the diaries of feisty retired art teacher Marie Sharp.

Grumpy old women meet Bridget Jones in Virginia’s latest novel No! I Don’t Need Reading Glasses, a sequel to the best-seller No! I Don’t Want to Join a Bookclub.

Marie may be getting on a bit but it’s certainly not getting her down. Having her family around her and a man who loves her means that life is good — but nothing stays the same for long.

Determined to conquer the taboos of growing older, Marie’s golden years are filled with as much drama, love, laughter and tears as ever, proving that age is no barrier to behaving disgracefully.

Virginia Ironside has written for publications including the Sunday Telegraph, the Daily Mail, Woman magazine and the Sunday Mirror. She has also written prolifically as an agony aunt, with her long-running column in The Independent celebrating its 20th anniversary last year. She premiered her one-woman show Growing Old Disgracefully at Edinburgh Festival in 2009.


The Watermill book club is open to everyone. Books will be available to buy at the theatre and a book signing will take place after the event.
