Zara chooses Hambleden to make her post-baby riding comeback
Published 06/05/14

ZARA PHILLIPS returned to the saddle for the first time since the birth of her first child in Hambleden at the weekend, writes Jamie Presland. The Queen’s granddaughter took part in the Symm International Horse Trials on the Hambleden estate on Saturday and Sunday.

Phillips, 32, a member of the Great Britain Olympic team that won silver at London 2012, had not competed since the birth of daughter Mia in January.

She rode CG Master Lux and Mr Murt in the open novice class on Saturday and finished 20th and 22nd. She returned on Sunday to compete in the open intermediate class, finishing 29th with Black Tuxedo and ninth with High Kingdom, the horse she rode at the Olympics.Phillips was accompanied to the event by Mia and her husband Mike Tindall, the England rugby union player.

Estate manager Alex Dick said: “It’s great that Zara chose our event for her comeback ahead of all the other events around the country. We were very glad to have her here, as we were for all the riders.”

The trials are held at the estate every year. This year there were more than 800 riders competing in dressage, showjumping and cross-country.
