A NEW solo exhibition of work by landscape artist Matthew Alexander opens at the Barry Whittington Gallery with a private view on Sunday.
Born in 1953, Matthew started his career in his home town of Margate. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Royal Society of British Artists, to which he was elected a member in 1985.
Barry Whittington, the gallery owner, said: “Matthew’s paintings are deeply rooted in the great tradition of European landscape art and his work is clearly a continuation of the British Impressionist movement. He continues to develop an enviable reputation as one of England’s finest landscape painters, having exhibited in many of the country’s most prestigious galleries. His work can be found in many public and private collections in the UK and abroad.”
This will be Matthew’s first solo show at the gallery and will include a selection of paintings of French, Venetian and English landscapes.
The private view at the Hart Street gallery is on Sunday, May 4 from 1pm to 5pm. The exhibition continues until May 17.
