Recreating all the glamour of Gracie
Published 19/05/14

A ONE-woman show recreating the glamour of the Twenties and Thirties comes to the Kenton Theatre in June.

A Lassie From Lancashire is part-drama and part-musical and is set around the intriguing life story of singer Gracie Fields.

Lancashire-born Gracie was a popular singer, comedienne and star of music hall and cinema between the wars so the show is likely to appeal to fans of the old-fashioned style of entertainment from days gone by.

A Lassie From Lancashire is the story of Susan, a woman in her forties, who has given up her stage career to marry the wealthy heir of a large company. She finds out about a new upcoming musical production about Gracie Fields, feels desperate to be back on the stage listening to applause again, and wonders whether or not to audition. The show explores the parallels between Susan’s quiet life and Gracie’s glamorous showbiz life and features music from the Twenties and Thirties, including Gracie favourites such as Sally, Walter and The Biggest Aspidistra in the World.

The show is at the Kenton Theatre on Sunday, June 22 at 2.30pm. The theatre is offering a free cup of tea with every adult ticket purchased. Tickets are £12 (£10 concessions) and if you buy 10 tickets the 11th is free. Go to www.kentontheatre.co.uk or call (01491) 575698.
