EVENTS are to be held to mark Wargrave library’s 90th birthday.
A party will be held at the Church Street venue on Friday, June 27 at 7.30pm.
This will be followed by a series of readings at different businesses over the weekend.
On Saturday, June 28, extracts from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen will be read at the Hair Company in High Street from 11am to 11.30am, a session called Love is in the Air, featuring Mills and Boon readings and love sonnets, will be held at Willow Dress Agency in High Street from 12.30pm to 1pm and there will be readings from some of Charles Dickens’ novels at John Connell Antiques in High Street from 1.30pm to 2pm.
A Harry Potter tea party will be held at the Old Post Office café in High Street from 3pm to 5pm where guests are invited to come dressed as their favourite character from J K Rowling’s books.
On Sunday, June 29, an open day will be held at Wargrave allotments in Recreation Road from 11am to 1pm featuring readings from The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett and gardening tips from allotment holders.
From Monday, June 23, the library will be decorated with embroidery and “cut books” which have been carved into different shapes and patterns.
