Daniels: Why we snubbed TV’s Big Brother
Published 26/08/14

PAUL DANIELS has revealed that he and Debbie McGee turned down the chance to appear in Celebrity Big Brother.

The magician and his wife, who live in Willow Lane, Wargrave, were tipped to take part in the show, which started on Monday, but pulled out because two of McGee’s relatives are unwell.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Daniels said he was approached by producers of the Channel 5 show and offered “a lot of money” to take part.

He said: “They came round and discussed the possibility of Debbie and I becoming the first couple to go into the house. I’m not bothered either way, a job is a job and it’s showbiz.

“It’s always about the money and Big Brother offered a lot of money. That would have paid for all our new flood defences and been very useful. Then things started to go wrong in Debbie’s family and those that follow us will know we have a nephew who is sick and Debbie’s dad isn’t very well either.

“We decided quite some weeks back that we couldn’t do it. The money was nice but family comes first.

“It was a good job we didn’t go in as I think the stress on Debbie would have been too much.”

Daniels said he had decided not to reveal the reasons behind the couple’s decision until the series had started.
