Allotments on television
Published 18/04/14

A NEW television show filmed on the Mapledurham Estate’s allotments began this week.

The first episode of The Big Allotment Challenge was broadcast on BBC 2 on Tuesday night.

The programme is based on the format of the BBC’s successful cookery show The Great British Bake-Off.It follows nine pairs of gardeners as they compete to win rosettes as best grower, flower arranger and produce maker.

It is narrated by Fern Britton and judged by Jim Buttress of the Royal Horticultural Society, former Telegraph food writer Thane Prince and florist Jonathan Moseley.

The show was filmed at the estate last summer. The first episode drew an audience of 2.5 million, beating ITV’s Midsomer Murders.
