NETTLEBED Folk Song Club restarts on Monday, September 8, with one of the most exciting and innovative young duos in the country, Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin, who won the BBC award for best duo earlier this year.
Phillip plays slide guitar and harmonica and Hannah is a singer/songwriter/fiddle player and multi-instrumentalist.
Then on Monday, September 15, the club, based at the Village Club in Nettlebed High Street, presents Altan — one of the biggest acts to perform so far at the venue. Winners of the BBC award for best group, Irish band Altan have performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House, and the Hollywood Bowl.
Taking the stage on Monday, September 22, are The Outside Track, whose award-winning Scottish, Canadian and Irish song, music and dance has been rapturously received worldwide.
On Monday, November 10, the club will present In Flanders Fields with Coope, Boyes and Simpson — a tribute to the lives caught up in the War to end all Wars.
It brings together readings, biting humour of Western Front soldiers and, most evocative of all, music of the time and specially-commissioned songs. Watch out for the Midsomer Murders Special on Monday, November 24. The club provided 15 performers over four days of filming, and all 15 will be performing their contributions.
On Monday, December 8, the club presents Lindisfarne — a special show by Ray Jackson’s legendary band before the Newcastle gigs.
