ST MARY’S CHURCH was packed as usual on Sunday morning for the annual regatta service, despite being timed half an hour earlier this year.
The service, which was attended by Stewards, competitors, spectators and other supporters, was conducted by the Rector, the Rev Canon Martyn Griffiths, who welcomed the congregation.
The choir, under the direction of organist and choirmaster Philip Aspden, sang the anthem O Lord, Increase Our Faith by Henry Loosemore and the lesson was read by Mike Sweeney, chairman of the regatta’s committee of management.
The sermon was given by the Very Rev Colin Slee, Dean of Southwark, while the collection was taken by members of two American crews, Gonzaga College High School and Kent School.
