Henley's insane river development plans ...

In Last weeks paper 25/08/06, there was a revival attemp of the failed plans to develop the beautiful Marsh Meadows site in Henley.

All though I would agree with a couple of the letters, that it would be nice to have an arts centre in Henley, this is totally the wrong site. There are plenty of other potential sites previously suggested (such as the proposed fairmile developments) without destroying the natural beauty and wildlife of the riverside.

Marsh meadows is an area of outstanding beauty from boat and land, that is widely used by the general public. This fact wasn\'t portrayed in the outdated image shown in the Henley Standard, that portrayed the site as wasteland.

I don't believe Henley has any need for a Marina or another Hotel. It would be nice if the Henley Partnership could see through the pound signs and take an objective view of the consequencies this would have on the area with more traffic problems, damage to the environment, wildlife and less free public recreation ground.

Rooney calls for the booing to stop
Last week Wayne Rooney called for the home fans of Manchester United to stop booing his team "mate" Cristiano Ronaldo, after his first appearance for the club since the world cup when he brought the so called "beautiful game" into disrepute.

I understand why he has called for an end to the booing, as it may effect the clubs performance, but personally I think the sport can do without players like Cristiano Ronaldo and he deserves all the boos he gets. Whatever talents he and other players like him may possess, they are completed negated by the cheating and thuggish behaviour that is making a mockery of the sport. This was so blatantly displayed in the recent world cup by many players such as Ronaldo and Zidane and even the cleanest players are getting in on the act, like Henry. England should start to lead the world in cleaning up the game, by making these cheats feel as uncomfortable as possible.

So c'mon Fergie, sell him to a club in a country that promotes his style of play, and makes hero's of cheats, maybe Argentina!.. Ooops have I said to much...
