HAIR confidence isn’t just about glossy, well-kept locks but that certainly helps. It’s about finding the hairstyles that suit you best and knowing which looks will complement your facial features.
Some people spend years trying out different looks before they find a hairstyle that they’re really comfortable with. Let the team at La Medusa help you achieve total hair confidence by giving you a cut that best suits your face shape.
Round: Choppier layers will add texture and the illusion of angles to rounder faced women like Charlotte Church and Drew Barrymore. A graduated bob cut looks great on round faces, as do choppy layers through the back and bottom of your hair. Avoid short, blunt fringes and chin-length locks which will accentuate fullness. Longer, wispy fringes will elongate your face shape, giving a narrower overall look.
Long: Wear your hair shorter to avoid further elongating your face with long tresses, and feel free to experiment with volume to add further width. Messy, less structured cuts are a great option for long faces, with the added bonus of being wonderfully low-maintenance. Opt for a side swept fringe over a centre parting to complement high foreheads.
Square: Demi Moore and Katie Holmes know how to work their angles with styles that are feathered and soft around the temples and ears. A centre parting works well on this face shape fair more so than on a longer face. Medium to long hair suits this shape better, generally, as short cuts can accentuate the squared shape. Avoid cuts above the jaw line if your jaw is particularly strong. Steer clear of poker straight styling, unless you’re going for the severe, angular look.
Oval: Lucky you if this is your face shape you can get away with most looks, as can fellow oval faced beauties, Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston. Soft layering on fine hair or a chopped bob on thicker tresses are both viable options for your face shape. A wispy side swept fringe or short, blunt bangs will work equally well.
Heart: For a perfect example of a heart-shaped face, see the lovely Sophie Dahl. If this is your shape, avoid top-heavy styles and ask for longer layers to soften and balance out the narrower part of your face your chin and jaw line. This face shape needs volume around the bottom half of the face, so don’t wear your hair too long.
