CHECKENDON Equestrian Centre is approved by the British Horse Society for training for stages one to three of the BHS examinations, as well as the riding and road safety test and the preliminary teaching test.
These examinations are held regularly at Checkendon Equestrian Centre, who are very pleased to announce that it has now been officially approved to offer BHS stage four training and examinations.
A BHS stage two examination was held at Checkendon in November, and six of the candidates were trained there. All six passed all of the sections they took — meaning a clean sweep for Checkendon.
Congratulations to the following: Max Campbell, passed care and riding, Hannah Parfitt, passed care and riding, Jemma Ward, passed riding, Jade Douglas, passed care and riding, Joy Brazier, passed care and Jenny Faulkner, passed riding.
Just a few days later Emily Ferris and Vicki Greenaway, who work at the centre passed their BHS intermediate teaching test.
At the end of November, the centre held a BHS stage one examination. Becki Chenery, Danielle Jubber, Alice Thatcher, Naomi Wray and Rebecca Jones took both the riding and care sections of the exam, having trained at Checkendon and all of them passed with flying colours.

RIDING is a great way to get fresh air and exercise and should be tried by all — at least once!
Whether you have always wanted to learn to ride, you rode in the past and have always meant to get back to it or just want to try something new Checkendon Equestrian Centre has experienced, qualified staff to get you into the saddle.
The centre has horses and ponies for every level and size of rider, from young children going on their first walk in the woods, to adult beginners and experienced riders of all levels and disciplines.
Checkendon Equestrian Centre is also a Pony Club centre for children without their own ponies, so children can enjoy Pony Club activities and membership using the ponies from Checkendon.
Children can also attend the centre’s Pony Days where the children ride and take part in stable management, learning how to care for a pony.
The Pony Days are run for all ages and abilities during the school holidays. If you had ever thought of taking the British Horse Society examinations, now could be the time to make that resolution.
The centre provides training in riding and care where you can gain internationally recognised qualifications, including the BHS Stages 1 to 4 and riding and road safety certificate. Checkendon also offer other ways to get in shape for the New Year with yoga and Pilates classes. These classes are kept to small numbers so that everyone gets individual attention and all abilities can learn together. For more information about riding and other activities at the centre please visit www.checkendonequestrian.co.uk or phone Linda on (01491) 680225, or email linda@checkendon equestrian.co.uk
LEARN With Smartie is all about children having safe fun and learning how to ride and handle ponies.
Since opening its stable doors earlier this year, there are now more than 50 children who are enjoying the “Learn With Smartie” experience.
There is a variety of options available, ranging from short taster sessions to more formal instruction — and there’s always plenty of fun and games to be had while learning.
Part of the fun includes riding around the rolling grassland on the farm, through the beautiful Chiltern beech woods, along the lanes of the adjacent nature reserve and across Maidensgrove Common.
