DEVELOPED originally in Scandinavia, Forest School is an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning which was introduced into the UK in the mid Nineties.
Forest School was introduced at Rupert House seven years ago and all children in nursery and reception enjoy weekly sessions at our own secure Forest School site under the guidance of our three trained Forest School leaders.
Children learn best from first hand experiences and Forest School is all about learning through exploration and play.
Children are taught to evaluate risk and how to use their own initiative to solve problems which often necessitates co-operation with others.
As the children play they learn boundaries of behaviour, both physical and social. They grow in confidence, self-esteem and self-motivation and learn to value and respect the natural environment.
The importance of outdoor education has now been recognised in the Early Years Foundation Stage but Forest School is special because when embedded in the curriculum it links to and enriches all areas of learning and development.
The EYFS provision at Rupert House was deemed to be outstanding when theywere inspected. Come and see for yourself. There is an open morning on Wednesday, May 21 from 10am to 12 noon. Alternatively, you may book an individual guided tour.
THERE have been some new faces at Rupert House this term as new children have joined both the Rupert Bear and nursery classes. These are the school’s youngest children, who benefit from a happy, secure and structured start to their education.
One should never underestimate what young children are able to achieve in a stimulating, supportive and caring environment such as that provided at Rupert House.
At a time when the national curriculum has been narrowed down, Rupert House proudly boasts that sport, drama, music and the arts are essential aspects of what they do to give their children a well-rounded start.
Deciding on the right school for your child is very important and they believe that a personal visit is invaluable. Staff are always delighted to welcome prospective parents and their children and they very much hope that you will visit, meet the headmistress and take a tour of the school.
