Weight training is one of the best ways to burn fat

WEIGHT training is not just for top level athletes and people looking to build muscles. There are many other benefits, one of which is to decrease excess body fat.

As summer is upon us and holidays are getting closer, you might find that weight training will be that ingredient to get you into that bikini or help develop that six pack you always wanted.

By lifting weights you help reduce body fat by increasing your metabolic rate and therefore increasing your daily calorie expenditure, so even sitting at home you’ll burn more calories. Many women believe lifting weights will make them bulky, look too masculine and so they avoid it altogether. However, creating a suitable training plan that involves weights and performing with the correct technique can actually enhance a woman’s femininity by improving muscle tone and definition and creating that more desirable body shape. To make sure you are getting the most out of your weight training always complete your cardio workout afterwards. This is because during exercise your body will use your glycogen stores which is your body’s preferred energy source for intense exercise and if you use up that energy, it won’t be available when you need to lift weights, making the goal of toning muscle or maximising calorie burn unattainable.

Compound exercises are a great way to start as these involve one or more large muscle groups and work across two or more major joints which will cause greater stimulation of the muscle fibres.
