A HENLEY schoolgirl forfeited half a family holiday in order to represent her country and pick up a medal at a schools’ international match.
Gillotts pupil Amy Herrington represented England in Cardiff at the schools’ international match in the hammer throwing.
Competing against competitors from Scotland, Wales and Ireland, the Reading Athletic Club thrower secured a bronze medal.
Herrington, of Damer Gardens, gained her first England vest after qualifying at the English Schools Athletics Championships at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.
The 16-year-old won through various rounds of local and regional county schools competitions to represent Oxfordshire in Birmingham where she came second. The top two qualified for the match in Cardiff with the winner in Birmingham taking Herrington’s UK number one ranking from her. Herrington jetted off to Menorca to join up with the rest of her family after picking up her bronze medal in Wales.
