Mr Dean, who had not taken part previously, said: “It’s a good course, a bit muddy in places but the grip was good. I’ll definitely be coming back next year to defend my title.”
A record 517 runners joined the race and accompanying 5km event, which was won by Stephen Knock, of Handy Cross Runners, in 19 minutes and 32 seconds.
The first woman in the longer race was Melanie Wilkins in a time of 40 minutes and 44 seconds, while the first junior was Thomas Brockwell, who crossed the line in 41 minutes and two seconds. The first female in the 5km was Jessica O’Connor in a time of 21 minutes and four seconds.
