AN ATHLETE from Christmas Common is gearing up to compete in two championships in three weeks.
Lawrence Clarke will represent England in the 110 metre hurdles at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Tuesday. He will then head to the European Championships in Zurich where he will represent Great Britain in the same event.
The 24-year-old sprint hurdler has been preparing for the Commonwealth Games since October and has been fitting in final training with the Scottish team in Kilmarnock.
He hopes to improve on the bronze medal he won as part of an English one-two-three with Andy Turner and William Sharman at the 2010 games in Delhi.
Clarke said: “I am ranked seventh or eighth in the Commonwealth Games so hopefully that means I will make the final. You never know what’s going to happen. Last time I was ranked 20th and ended up coming third.
