Athletes return for second sprint triathlon

MORE than 90 people took part in the second annual Wargrave sprint triathlon on Sunday.

The competitors completed a 750m swim in the Thames, a 20km cycle around Hare Hatch and Knowl Hill and a 5km run.

The event was won by IT manager Paul Young, who finished in a time of one hour, five minutes and 16 seconds.

Mr Young, 38, of High Street, Wargrave, was cheered by his wife Hannah, 37, and daughters Emily, seven, and Annie, five, as he approached the finish line and was given a Union flag to drape over his shoulders.Mr Young finished more than two minutes ahead of second-placed Barry Keane, who was also the runner-up last year.

Sophie Whitworth, who competes in Ironman triathlons around the world, was the first woman to finish in a time of one hour, 12 minutes and 30 seconds, while Redskin Nancy won the team race in one hour, 11 minutes and 10 seconds.
