Teenager wins gold

HAMMER thrower Amy Herrington ended her season in style by winning the gold medal at the UK School Games in Manchester last Friday.

Herrington’s personal best throw of 56.58 metres saw the Henley teenager go back to the top of the UK rankings for the season. Herrington is also now number four in the UK all-time list for U17 3kg hammer throwers.

The 16-year-old Henley College student qualified for the competition by winning the silver medal at the English Schools Championships earlier in the season and being the highest placed finisher from the Midlands region.

Speaking after her success, Herrington said: “I am absolutely delighted with the victory.

“My aim at the start of the season was to qualify and then medal in all of the five big competitions available to me and I had achieved that up to Manchester but I was desperate to get one gold amongst the collection and I managed to get it at the last one.
