Team GB cuts athletes funding

AN athlete from Christmas Common has had his funding cut less than a year before the Olympics Games in Brazil

AN athlete from Christmas Common has had his funding cut less than a year before the Olympics Games in Brazil.

Lawrence Clarke, a sprint hurdler, will no longer receive support from British Athletics through its world class performance programme, which is paid for by the National Lottery through UK Sport.

The funding of athletes is decided on potential to win medals.

Clarke finished fourth in the final of the 110 metres at the 2012 Olympics in London and suffered a number of injury lay-offs before he finished eighth at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last summer.

He was the Team GB captain for the European athletics indoor championships in Prague in March.
