Nike on alert after showing promise

RUNNER Tom Nike has been appointed reserve athlete for the Berkshire County nationals team.

RUNNER Tom Nike has been appointed reserve athlete for the Berkshire County nationals team.

This follows his performance at the Berkshire County Cross Country Championships in which his team won a silver medal.

Nike, a Year 10 pupil at Shiplake College, runs regularly for Reading Athletics Club.

This season, he has been part of Reading Athletic Club’s team at Hampshire League fixtures, and recently raced in the Southern Counties Cross Country Championships.

Nike also represented the college at the Oxfordshire Schools Cross Country Championships, sporting an Orchard House green vest.

He raced around the wildly windy grounds of Radley College, finishing the 5.8km course in a ninth position, despite being up against runners from Year 11.

Nike only just missed out on team selection for the Oxfordshire Schools Nationals team but assumes the position of reserve athlete, and is as driven as ever to gain a place on the team.
