HENLEY played a mixed triples OTL/Plomer Cup match away to SHIPLAKE last Wednesday but the home side proved too strong.
They ran out winners overall by 94-62. Four of the five rinks were closely contested but Shiplake finished the matches the stronger to gain 12 OTL points and 10 Plomer Cup points with Henley gaining just two points for each competition.
Henley’s Simon Hastings, Janet Thompson and Andy Scott won 17-13 before Richard Kingston, Norman Daniells and Angelika Crisa lost 10-16, Roger Sayer, Sally Daniells and John Rees, having been 11-6 up after 12 ends and only one down on the final end, eventually lost 14-19, Jenny Wingrove, Maurice Robins and Barrie Davies 14-20, and Peter Borsberry, Kevin Browne and Val Rees 7-26.

Last Thursday, SHIPLAKE hosted HEADINGTON A in the OBL division 1 and were soundly beaten 109-48, with five going points to Headington and one to the hosts.
Barry Lambourne’s rink trailed their opponents from the start, and despite some brave resistance went down by 16 shots. Barrie Evans’s four found themselves 12 behind before opening their score, and were completely outclassed losing by 28 shots. The pattern continued on Graham Kennedy’s rink, and despite an early lead, were overrun and lost by 20 shots.
The only ray of sunshine for the home side was a win for Jim Bland’s four who started well, then fell behind, but recovered to win by three.

On Sunday, Katie Bland of SHIPLAKE travelled to Banbury Chestnuts to play in the under-25s singles.
She was drawn against Jazz Alder of West Witney in the first match, and won. In the afternoon she was up against Clare Soden from WATLINGTON in the final. The contest was very even throughout with no one dominating, and Clare managed to draw ahead in the last couple of ends and took the game. As a finalist, Katie has qualified to represent Oxfordshire in the National Finals at Leamington in August.
Meanwhile, WARGRAVE KLX defeated DESBOROUGH C 68-39 on Monday last week. The following day, they took on WOKINGHAM C, from the Kennet league, winning 76-66.
WARGRAVE LADIES played PALMER PARK in a friendly match on the same day, and were forced to finish after 12 ends due to rain with the scores level. Each team had won one, drawn one and lost one.
