SHIPLAKE needed 12 of the 14 points on offer to retain the Oddfellows Triples League but could only score four points against the new champions BURGHFIELD and lost by 15 shots.
Matt Shepherd was 13 down by the fifth end and although he scored four on the next end couldn’t catch up, going down by six.
Daphne Jacob scored some twos and a three but she was left behind and eventually lost by 12. Barry Lambourne was also six down after two ends but recovered to come home a comfortable winner by eight.
Outbowled by their opponents the triple of Tony Reid never reached double figures and were beaten by 14. Graham Kennedy was the only other winner for the villagers and was level pegging at the 13th but then scored 10 in the next four ends to make victory certain.
SHIPLAKE had also travelled to HARWELL in an earlier round which they won by 23 shots and 12 points to their hosts two.
Winning the first five ends Melvin Stafford eventually won by 15, including a six. After a bad start Jim Bland’s triple took the lead on the eighth end and went on to win by 10 while Barrie Evans ended up the highest winning rink for the visitors by 15 shots.
WARGRAVE lost a friendly match against WINDSOR GREAT PARK three rinks to two and by 71 shots to 102.
They fared better in a friendly match against BRACKNELL, winning four rinks and losing on two but lost on points overall 88-93.
