SHIPLAKE’S triple of Francis Benham, David Bullock and Graham Kennedy beat a strong team from CARTERTON to lift the men’s county triples title last Sunday.
Having beaten Headington the previous week and some of the county’s best bowlers en route to the final, the Shiplake triple defeated a Carterton side consisting of David Clanfield, Paul Sharman and Alan Prew by the narrowest of margins.
Holding their own up to the ninth end where they trailed by three, Shiplake then won the next seven ends with six singles and a two to go into the lead by five shots.
However, Shiplake succumbed to a two and a three on the last two ends to be level on the 18th, forcing an extra end.
The Shiplake trio held their nerve on the extra end, holding three of four shots where their opponents’ skip just missed the line with his last bowl to give them victory.
