More woe as travelling team get university blues

SHIPLAKE’S woes continued in the MUL when they travelled to UNIVERSITY OF READING last Saturday where they lost by 21 shots (67-88) and collected only three points of the possible 12.

The only winning triple were that of Melvin Stafford, David Steel and captain Wendy Cross, winning by five.

Barrie Evans’ triple scored a single on the last end to draw 20-20. Other Shiplake skips were David Bullock (-15), Graham Kennedy (-5) and Howard West (-5).

Scores (Shiplake names): I Robinson, S Blackmore, D Bullock 9-24; H Robinson, L Mitton, B Evans 20-20; M West, M Lovejoy, G Kennedy 11-16; P Steel, E Orchard, H West 10-15; M Stafford, D Steel, W Cross 17-13.

WARGRAVE were at home in the Kennet League, beating WOKINGHAMM C on June 4. The score was 83/59.

Rink 4 (team G. Whiting s, E. Barnett, G Smith and J Avery) secured a very good result, 31-9. Wargrave secured 12 points to Wokingham C-2.

WARGRAVE were away to THREE MILE COURSE on June 5. Unfortunately they lost with a score of 65/98. Wargrave were unable to settle to the fast green. The visitors fielded a weaker side due to county competitions.

The first ladies’ match at Wargrave was played on June 6 against TWYFORD LADIES, with Wargrave beating Twyford easily.

Wargrave were home to DESBOROUGH last Saturday. In windy but sunny conditions Wargrave lost 75/87 to Desborough in a five mixed triples match.

Last Saturday WATLINGTON entertained HAZELLS BOWLS CLUB in a five-rink triples match. Watlington won by 102 shots to 60 on four out of five rinks.
