Evans leads all the way as Shiplake take honours

SHIPLAKE hosted BICESTER last Thursday evening in an ODBL Division 2 match and beat them by 98 shots to 72,

SHIPLAKE hosted BICESTER last Thursday evening in an ODBL Division 2 match and beat them by 98 shots to 72, 41/2 points to Shiplake, 11/2 to Bicester.

The rink skipped by Barrie Evans led for the entire game, and ran out winners by 10 shots.

Likewise, Jim Bland’s rink were never troubled and won by a substantial 17 shots.

It was a different story however for Barry Lambourne’s four who trailed for the early part, fought back to take the lead with two ends to go, but went down by a single shot on the last end.

A real ding-dong took place on Graham Kennedy’s rink, falling behind early on, recovered to take the lead, then went behind again, only to salvage a draw at the close.

On Wednesday of last week SHIPLAKE entertained TWYFORD in a six rink mixed triples and were successful by 21 shots (110-89).

Both Helen Robinson and Edna Orchard won by a convincing 11 shots.

Graham Clinch picked up a hot-shot eight on the fifth end to win by the same amount. The other winning skip was Mike Lovejoy (+2).

PEPPARD hosted a friendly-rinks fixture with WOODLEY, winning by just one shot. Peppard had two winning rinks. and a draw. On rink four Albert Shepherd’s team allowed the opposition to score on only six ends and forged steadily ahead after three shots on each of the first two ends.

PEPPARD entertained BURGHFIELD in a five-triples MUL match and lost by 14 shots gaining 4 League points to the visitors’ 8 points. Peppard had two winning rinks. Skip Tony Reid’s team stormed ahead to a 22 shot victory but that was not sufficient to make up for heavy losses on other rinks.

PEPPARD travelled to WALLINGFORD for a five-triples friendly, losing by seven shots. Peppard won on two rinks. On rink two, skip Elaine Roberts’ team grabbed the first shots to be 14 shots ahead at halfway but the opposition put up a fight, clawing back to an 8 shot win for Peppard‘s side.
