Award for farm shop

A FARM shop and delicatessen in Wargrave has won an award.

A FARM shop and delicatessen in Wargrave has won an award.

The Local Larder, at Val Wyatt marina, off Willow Lane, was named best deli in Berkshire in the Muddy Stilettos awards.

The business, which sells food and drink made by local suppliers, won more than 36 per cent of the vote to defeat runner-up Tastes Delicatessen, of Windsor.

Alison Hussey, who runs the business, was presented with the award at a ceremony at Basildon Park.

Ms Hussey, who started the Local Larder in 2014, said: “I’m delighted, especially on behalf of all my producers.

“I think I’m pretty much the only place in the area where you can get local produce and such a wide range.

“There were some other really good contenders for the award, including a couple of big farm shops, and I can only imagine the local produce made a difference for me.

“I’ve put up the certificate on the wall and stickers on the window. It’s very exciting.”

The awards, now in their third year, celebrate independent local businesses.

* Studio 35 in Duke Street, Henley, was named best jewellery store in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire in the awards.
