Another award for pub

THE Miller of Mansfield in Goring has won another award.

THE Miller of Mansfield in Goring has won another award.

The hotel in High Street was named best destination pub in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire by Muddy Stilettos, a women’s lifestyle blog.

It was one of five shortlisted venues and won with 47.4 per cent of readers’ votes.

Owners Nick and Mary Galer, who previously worked for Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck Group in Bray, took over the business in 2014 and spent £75,000 refurbishing it.

Before they moved in, it was losing trade and was on the verge of being shut down as a health hazard by South Oxfordshire District Council. Now it has won several accolades including two AA rosettes, readers’ restaurant of the year in the Good Food Guide and a listing in the Michelin Guide.

It came third in the restaurant category of the Best Thames Local Awards in 2014 and again last year, when it was also highly commended in the pub category.

Last month The Miller was shortlisted in the final three in the newcomer category of the Catey Awards, a national accolade presented by trade magazine The Caterer.

Mr Galer, who is head chef while his wife runs front of house, said they were “really pleased” with their latest accolade.

The couple received a framed certificate, which they have added to the “awards wall” at the pub’s entrance.
