STONOR Park has been named one of the best stately homes in the country.
Britain, the official magazine of the Visit Britain tourist portal, put the estate at number seven out of 25.
Editor Sally Coffey said: “We toured the British Isles to bring you 25 of our most magnificent manor houses and country estates, each with its own story to tell.”
The Hon William Stonor, whose family has owned Stonor Park for more than 850 years, said the listing was a “great honour”.
He said: “Stonor Park is one of the oldest family homes in the country.
“To be the custodian of this home is a privilege for me and my family and we look forward to many more people visiting and enjoying it following this wonderful announcement.”
A new adventure playground at Stonor is set to open by the end of the month in a bid to encourage more families to visit.
In June, a new visitor centre with reception, coffee shop and lavatories was opened and in April the shrubbery was opened to the public for the first time.
In November Stonor will host a Christmas fair with Country Homes and Interiors magazine and visitors will be able to see the house dressed for the festive season for the first time.
Stonor Park first opened to visitors in 1979.
