WATLINGTON’S post office would open an extra 66 hours a week under a move to the nearby Co-op store.

The future of the High Street business has been uncertain for months.

But under the plans it would be open seven days a week in a “modern, open plan retail environment” at the Couching Street store.

The Post Office has launched a six week public consultation and wants residents’ views.

A statement from the company said: “Post Office local is a new concept for delivering Post Office services from two open-plan tills at the shop counter. Services would be provided throughout shop opening hours Monday to Sunday from 6am to 10pm.

“This is an extra 66 hours a week of Post Office service including all-day Sunday and Saturday afternoon. The branch would also open significantly earlier and close much later.”

Other services will include manual banking, Transcash, and Royal Mail and Parcelforce International Services. Cheques will continue to be accepted as a method of payment.

The consultation will close on September 30. Submissions can be made by Freepost YOUR COMMENTS to Post Office Ltd, via email to comments @postoffice.co.uk via the customer helpline on 03457 22 33 44 or textphone 03457 22 33 55.
