Local restaurants awarded for excellence

TWO restaurants in the Henley area have been commended for culinary excellence in the AA Rosette Awards

TWO restaurants in the Henley area have been commended for culinary excellence in the AA Rosette Awards.

Orwells in Shiplake was awarded four rosettes, the only restaurant in Oxfordshire and one of only 39 across the UK to achieve this.

Shaun Dickens at the Boathouse in Station Road, Henley, was awarded three rosettes.

Orwells owners Ryan Simpson and Liam Trotman were said by the judges to “exhibit intense ambition, a passion for excellence, superb technical skills and remarkable consistency”.

The pair opened the restaurant in 2010 having gained a Michelin star while working together at The Goose in Britwell Salome.

Earlier this month, Orwells was named restaurant of the year in the Waitrose Good Food Guide 2017. It was also included in the top 50 restaurants in this year’s Good Food Guide.

On Wednesday, Mr Simpson made his television debut on the new series of the BBC’s Yes Chef, where professional chefs select an amateur partner to work with.
