THE award-winning chef at Orwells restaurant in Shiplake has made his TV debut.

THE award-winning chef at Orwells restaurant in Shiplake has made his TV debut.

Ryan Simpson appeared on Yes Chef, a BBC 1 daytime show presented by former Emmerdale actress Sheree Murphy in which professionals choose an amateur partner to work with.

In each episode four amateurs battled it out in a series of culinary challenges with one going through with their professional to the final where they competed against other professionals and their chosen home cooks.

The judge was three-star Michelin chef Pierre Koffmann.

Mr Simpson, 33, came second with two dishes — spider steak with lobster, fennel, shiitake mushrooms, purple potatoes and sea herbs with a soy dressing and a potato salad with pickled carrot, asparagus and sauce vierge and rabbit loin with bacon, black pudding, radishes, peas and leek.

He said: “I found it really interesting. It was great to meet Pierre Koffmann and try to impress him.

“Sheree Murphy was great to work with. She really made me feel at ease as soon as I got there. She was very complimentary.”

Last month, Orwells was awarded four AA rosettes for culinary excellence, the only restaurant in Oxfordshire and one of only 39 across the UK to achieve this.
