The ‘chimpanzee’ that can recite Shakespeare

RESIDENTS of Henley were treated to a performance of Shakespeare by an unlikely dramatist.

The “ape” made his way into Falaise Square, accompanied by a Chinese dragon, and recited the famous “All the world’s a stage” monologue from As You Like It.

The chimpanzee mask is the brainchild of Seb Mayer, 22, a designer and entrepreneur who lives in Brampton Chase, Shiplake.

He has been making masks for years in order to embarrass himself anonymously at music festivals and fancy dress parties, including the Music on the Meadows event last year.

“I make animal masks mostly because it’s easier,” he says. “I can just copy the ideas from the work of a much more skilled and ancient designer — Mother Nature.”
