New deal for town manager

HENLEY’S town centre manager has been given a new two-year contract.

Peter McConnell, 51, took over the role in April 2012 and has spearheaded initiatives including the shopfront improvement scheme and the Create Henley festival this month.

The marketing expert, who lives in King’s Road, receives a package worth £16,000 a year to work 18½ hours a week.

He reports to town council clerk Mike Kennedy and presents a report twice a year to a management board comprising members of the town council, South Oxfordshire District Council and the Henley Partnership, which all contribute to his salary.

Mr McConnell said: “I’m pleased that the town and district councils have seen fit to renew my contract.
