Former landlord given sign after historic pub closes

THE former landlord of a Henley pub has been given a lasting memento of his 27 years of service.

Dave Beck, 93, who ran the Rose & Crown in New Street from 1953 until 1980, was presented with the pub’s hanging sign.

The Brakspear pub closed in August after the company said it was no longer viable.

An application to convert the Grade II listed building into a house has been rejected by South Oxfordshire District Council.

Mr Beck, of Belle Vue Road, Henley, called Brakspear chief executive Tom Davies to ask him to reconsider the closure and then to buy the sign.
