Petition launched at closure of last village bank

A PETITION has been launched to save the Sonning Common branch of NatWest.

The bank will close its Peppard Road branch at the end of August due to dwindling customer numbers.

It said many people now use other ways to do their banking such as online or by telephone.

However parish councillor Dirk Jones has launched a petition to keep the facility open which has gained 37 signatures so far.

He said: “When I first came to the village 40 years ago there were two banks.
