Survey shows 57 per cent against Tesco

MORE than half of Goring residents oppose Tesco’s plans for a store in the village, according to an independent survey.

The retailer hopes to open an Express convenience store at the former Queen’s Arms pub in Reading Road, which closed last year.

Out of 298 people who took part in a poll organised by the Goring Gap Business Network, 169, or 57 per cent, were against the scheme.

A total of 118 residents, or 40 per cent, were in favour while three per cent were undecided.

The survey found 73 per cent of residents would be no more or less likely to use the existing village shops if Tesco opened.
