Post office and shop set to become house

A VILLAGE may lose its post office after plans to convert it into a house were approved.

Bal Budesha, who runs the village store and post office in Checkendon, has been granted planning permission by South Oxfordshire District Council for a change of use to a three- or four-bedroom home.

At present, the property in Whitehall Lane comprises the post office, shop and a mail sorting room as well as a three-bedroom house and garage.

Mr Budesha had tried to sell the business for more than three years without success but it could still move to new premises.

He said: “I’m in discussions with the parish council over relocation within the next three months. We’re looking at all options available to relocate the post office within the village.”
