Bumped out of job

THE lorry driver who knocked over a hanging basket pole in Henley a couple of weeks won’t be doing that again soon.

As the Henley Standard reported at the time, he was manoeuvering his vehicle in Hart Street when he hit the post, snapping it and sending the hanging basket crashing to the ground.

It turns out that the driver was an employment agency worker in his first week with transport firm Premier Logistics — and his last one too.

Stephen Morgan, the firm’s depot manager, says that after the incident he asked the agency not to send the driver again, adding: “I don’t want, or need, drivers here who don’t follow the basics.”

The good news is that the broken pole will be replaced by the town council which has ordered a new pole, which is handmade and waiting for delivery.
